I've got a client attempting to access a file share on an NT 4.0 (NTFS formatted partition) share that contains roughly 25,000 folders and files. When browsing to the share through a mapped drive from Win2k systems, enumeration of all files and folders on the share can take anywhere between 3 - 4 minutes. Browsing to the same share from an NT 4.0 based server / workstation takes only 45 - 60 seconds to enumerate all files and shares. This is a mixed mode MS only network. The NT 4.0 file share server is patched to SP 6a. The Win2k servers are SP2 w/ all appropriate hot-fixes aside from SP3. Anyone come across something like this before? Thanks, J PS - the digging I've done so far has come up with a potential need call to MS for a special fix. I'm trying to rule that out if possible.
