If the farms are in different domains you need to establish a trust
relationship between them. Right now you are logging in with user1 in
domain1. If you add a farm from domain2, this domain needs to be able to
verify the user credentials of user1.

In case they are in the same domain you don't need the trust, because
the authentication happens in the same domain.

I was reading the admin guide and it mentioned trusts - do I need to
have a domain trust in order to enable multi-farm support?

CPS40 supports multi-farm configuration.

In the ASC you have to modify the sites created. You should have
separate ones, one for web and one for PNA.

You specify the server for the additional farm(s). If you want more
information take a look at the admin guide in article CTX106472

How can I have the applications appear from a totally separate 4.0 Farm
appear in my web interface page as well as in my workstation PN Agent
application lists? Is there some type of gateway I need to configure?
