you reiterating that it was user not server
then I thought maybe it was user configs we cant see (i.e ADSI)
Compared working account vs. not working account ADSI properties - found
"userParameters" was different
googled "Published Application launches Explorer userParameters"

first item on list.... :) haha

Cheers everyone and enjoy your weekends!

Hello

As long as you haven't cloned the first server in the farm and you've
run sysprep (despite recent comments about sysprep not really being
required) you should be okay.

But as Joe mentioned, the most appropriate way now is to use PVS and a
top tool this is too. If you have platinum, you should already have the
software.

Still doesn't explain your problem as if it's just some users and not
others, the cloned server isn't the problem?

Cheers

Russell sorry for the delay and thanks for your replies!

RSOP shows identical user configs. (comparing my account - that doesn't
have the issue and the user who does)

We have most of our servers built by script - though we have a couple
internal IT support boxes that we have cloned using the citrix sysprep.

Any schools of thought for or against cloning? we have noticed that a
number of apps on these cloned boxes are starting to 'not play nice'
including the crashing of the desktop.....grrrr

Hello

Did you try running RSOP on a user with the problem and a user without
the problem on the same Citrix server to see if they are subject to
different policies??

Cheers

Upgrade of client didn't work....

End user still gets the "you have started windows explorer in your ICA
seamless session. This will obscure your local explorer desktop." etc
etc etc...

Change the colour depth of the published app to match the desktop
(24bit) - FAIL

Change colour depth to less than core desktop - FAIL

Changed to run as a 'non seamless' app - FAIL

Launching published app-v app - FAIL

Launching just executable (IE)- FAIL

Delete the users roaming profile - FAIL

Duplicate the troubled Account in AD - OK seamless all ok.

It must be user account specific?!?!

James

wiped the profile (roaming) - no joy

they connect like so:

HP thin client - citrix desktop receiver (version 11.2.2.3) -> Desktop
Server: Windows 2008 SP2 x64 server with Xen App 5 and with Client
version 12 -> IT Published Apps Servers: Windows 2008 SP2 x64 client
version 11.2.2.3

it seems that concentr.exe is IN the ICA Client directory on the servers
- im goign to update the published apps servers client to Version 12
inline with the core desktop servers.

See what happens. :)

Hello

Tried a new profile for the problem users? Or would they be subject to a
particular group policy that a working user isn't getting?

Would be good to know too what version of Windows and Citrix you have.

Cheers

Hi

Recent patches been applied for anything? (has it always failed) -
always failed for these specific users

Event log errors? looks like its 'detecting' to enable HDX from the
core (citrix servers) to the tier 2 servers - which of course fails.. as
its ctx to ctx not thin client to ctx

also we get The following application was terminated because it was
hung: concentr.exe.

Configuration changes? nothing new / recent - same app works for me...
grrrrr

ICA client updates? they havent changed. v12 on the servers, v11 on the
thin clients

Do the errors always stick with the user? What happens when they try a
different client device? logged the user directly on as local admin of
thin client - and same issue. but only with this error logged this time-
The following application was terminated because it was hung:
concentr.exe.

Thanks again for the pointers and tests - very much appreciated..!

Anyone got any quick ideas of where to look as to why a published app is
crashing out to a full desktop for some end users?

It seems to be user 'account' related because when we setup a new
account from a broken one - the same issues apply.

The users are NOT admins and we have only launch published apps
enabled.....??
