Thank you. I knew I was forgetting something. I believe you are
correct.

From memory, with InstallShield, you need to do a 'setup.exe -r' to
record the script file which is usually created as
'c:\winnt\system32\setup.iss'. As you said, copy it back into the setup
directory and do a 'setup.exe -s' to re-run the install with the options
specified in the script file.

You can do a silent install of the client. Just grab the install .ini
after a successful install and put it in the setup directory and then
run setup.exe -s.

You can do this with most install shield installs. I think it's
c:\winnt\system32\setup.ini that holds the install shield values. I am
not sure if I remember it correctly. Usually I do a find for *.ini
before and after the install. The ini you need is in the system path
and stands out like a sore sum because it's the only one there.

I also like screwdrivers. I'm currently cutting over to fxp from an
NT4.0 1.6 farm. fxP has a lot of nice benefits over the 1.6 version.

yeah it does. The client software requires user input
(next,next,finish --
or something like that) so I didn't know how to put it in a script.
luckily we only have a few hundred employees.

I currently run EOL Universal Printer which works well once it is
installed and working. It is PDF based and has conflicts with most
Adobe products other than Acrobat 4.05c. Getting it installed sometimes
is a chore, and currently is the only issue that I ever have to provide
support for. They are releasing a version that is not PDF dependant.
I'm not sure if the new version will work with the clients that I
currently have deployed which number well over 1000. If the new version
doesn't work with existing clients and I have to do a full scale
rollout, I was going to consider other products like fxp as well. Does
Screwdrives fxp require a client install? (I'm guessing it does)

Thanks,

Brian
