Cool. More power too you Chris for working to resolve a nagging issue
with it.=20

I'll try this out on a couple systems w/ differing hardware, but it
won't be till this weekend. Not that it will make me a fan of sysprep,
but moving images between different hardware sets quickly would
certainly be nice. And I'm sure quite a boon to many of the folks on
this list.=20

Thanks for sharing

I understand that, and I have a VBScript that already makes those
changes after the image is complete. I would rather create a SYSPREP
image for our clients, so they can walk through the mini-setup if
they choose to do so.

I believe I figured out the cause and where it happens in the whole
process, and I might have a final resolve (for those that want to
know).

First, make a backup of the HKLM\System\MountedDevices key. Run
SYSPREP 2.0, BUT DO NOT HAVE IT SHUTDOWN OR REBOOT. Select Quit from
the last drop-down list. Run SYSPREP. After it closes, re-import
the backup reg key you previously made. The reason for this is that
SYSPREP deletes this key. It appears that SYSPREP 1.x never did, and
now with 2.0 it does. I have tested this on one machine, and it
works. However, this with same hardware. I will be testing this
procedure on another server to make sure that it does not fail. If
anyone else can test this, please let me know what you find out.
