Well, another reason for doing this is my Metaframe2 server is pretty much
dedicated to Dial-In users only, and it is a higher end server that I want
to experiment with 2003 Terminal Services on. The server Metaframe is a
lower end server which would suit the needs for the few people who dial into
it.

This advice seems like it will do what I want, thanks for your help,

Collin White

I also think that this is correct. But I have a question as to why you =
would want to have a spare versus load balancing?

Hmmm... from my standpoint, I don't see why not.
You'd have to take "Metaframe" out of the farm & unplug it from the =3D
network, rename it "Metaframe2" & redo it's IP, and reset the computer =3D
account in AD. Reboot it then with the NIC plugged back into the =3D
network, and if all the apps are installed in the exact place as the =3D
previous one, it shouldn't be noticeable to the users. =3D20

I believe the published apps go by name & IP addy, not MAC address or =3D
anything. Does anyone know if I am wrong?

That doesn't sound like what I am talking about, this is from a Disaster
recovery standpoint, there will not be an opportunity to remove this =3D
server
from a farm since it has crashed. What I want to do is replace the =3D
crashed
server, in this case Metaframe2, with a spare server. I want to put the
spare server online, give it the same name and IP as the crashed server =
=3D
and
know if it will be seamless to the users.

Can this be done?

Thanks,

Collin White

Hello everyone: Is it possible to rename a Metaframe Server? For =3D
Example I
have a Windows 2000 SP2 Metaframe XP FR1 Server called Metaframe2, I =3D
just
built another server the same configuration and it is called Metaframe. =
=3D
Is
it possible to take Metaframe2 offline, put Metaframe Online, change =3D
it's IP
address to the same as Metaframe2, and then rename it to Metaframe2. =3D
Will
this work? I ask because I would like to use this as a disaster =3D
recovery
procedure, server crashes, put a spare online.

Thanks,

Collin White
