[THIN] Registry Quota on NT4 TSESince you're on NT4.0, you can use regclean.
It used to be available from M$. I'm sure you can find it on Google.

Thanks to all who replied (Angus, Michael, Joe-Perot, and Ron.)

My NTUSER.DATs are pretty small. I have a template profile I build all
users roaming profiles from and I've stripped just about everything out of
them.

After reading your responses, there is no question I should bump the
registry quota value. Its always been one of those things that wasn't
causing a problem and I never looked to see the impact of upping it - so I
left it alone.

Because this server is the only one affected, and it is relatively lightly
loaded with users, I'm confident that something else is going on here. But
I'm not sure what. I bumped the RSL by 5MB yesterday and the problem has
re-occurred. Probably the easiest course of action is to tear it down and
rebuild it, since it is a VM and it isn't too difficult to do that.

Anyone know of an integrity checker for the registry :) ?

Yeah the Paged pool was 192, with a RSL at about 156 or so right.

"Can't remember what the paged pool limit was for NT 4.0 TSE"

192MB if you are lucky, but that is a theoretical maximum. I just went
through this with Microsoft Support for weeks trying to wring out any extra
space we could from the RSL. Best thing you can do is to run as fast as you
can from NT4 to Windows2003 (if you can).

This might be a time for Bernd to jump in and explain what his product
can do to help as well.

    Hi Robert,

The maximum registry size is 80% of the maximum paged pool size.

Can't remember what the paged pool limit was for NT 4.0 TSE
(win2k/win2k3 is 80% of 270 MB) but we commonly set the maximum registry
size to 128 MB on NT 4.0 TSE without problems.

    regards,

    Rick

Subject: [THIN] Registry Quota on NT4 TSE

I have a VM running on ESX that had an apparent problem with low
registry
quota. I built this machine from the image of another. I also ran a
couple
of tools on it to clean up the registry after running newsid:

    NTREGOPT
    PAGEDFRG

According to the NT GUI, I had assigned 40MB to registry quota, and 22MB
are
in use. I bumped this up by 5MB and rebooted, and allowed user's back
on to
the system. My physical servers running TSE have been set for 40MB for
years, with no apparent ill effects. They also have more RAM (2GB vs
1GB on
VMs) and support more users. After reading up on registry quota in the
MS
Knowledge Base, I'm convinced that I have enough quota, but that
something
else is going on - ie. I hosed the registry when building the system or
something with the Page Pool which appears to be related to reg quota
    somehow.

Anyone have any idea what may be going on or how to troubleshoot this?

    Thanks

    - Bob Coffman
