One tip is to not redirect the "Application Data" folder to a network share. It is heavily used by Windows while a user is logged on, so it should be left local. We redirected that folder in one farm and had major latency issues. -dave -----Original Message----- From: Chris Lynch [mailto:lynch00@xxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, September 05, 2003 4:05 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Redirecting Desktop folders -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Well, that is how it's setup already. But, it appears that when you do Desktop folder redirection, it "blocks" the All Users desktop from applying any icons there. We don't redirect to a "All Users desktop", but this may help. Within one GPO, we send users to a desktop folder for basic setup and information. Depending on what group the user is a member of, we are send them to a group's desktop folder for desktop settings. The location for the GPO settings is: Users Configuration \ Windows Setting \ Folder Redirection And we send the user to this location: \\ servername\userdesktops\(group's desktop) Within a different GPO, we have other users that have folder redirection to their own desktop and other folders. The GPO settings is the same above, with the location settings below: \\ servername\users\%username%\application data \\ servername\users\%username%\desktop \\ servername\users\%username%\My Documents We also have the users on with roaming profiles. It may or may not be most efficient way of doing things with the above settings, but it does work. Hope this helps. But, it appears that when enabling Desktop folder redirection, it disables the AllUsers Desktop folder. Also, I'm not looking for a 3rd party utility, and scripting might take too long to develop.
