That is fascinating that you could maintain an active ICA session while the server instance was moved! I agree about blades, we do blades for some customers, standard servers for others and VMWare now for specialized instances. They all have their various merits and it seems that based on the needs of the environment they are all valid solutions. This is what keeps it all interesting! I can further tell you that with combining ESX and Vmotino (included with VirtualCenter), you can provide 100% uptime. There was a test that was performed with moving a VM from one host to another with an active ICA session. I was NEVER dropped during the move. VM is a great alternative to blade servers. The only downside is that you are in fact relying on one host machine. BUT, with VirtualCenter, you can be online within seconds after a failure. ESX is not cheap, but neither are the HP Proliant BL series, or even the IBM blades. The whole idea is to partition hardware to different services (whether they reside within a VM on a host, or across different hosts participating within a grid, Grid Computing), and to utilize all of the hardware. Albeit, a MF server should have a decent amount of hardware behind it to support a number of users. But, VM is a great alternative to blades. Same philosophy, different roads. Both have their pros and cons. Chris - -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Eric S. What benefit are you hoping to gain, I could see a few advantages, but I see more overhead than benefit. Eric S. We are working on a project with this idea in mind and would appreciate and feedback from others who have tried this approach. Regards, Steve Greenberg Thin Client Computing 34522 N.
