By any chance, does this server have HyperThreading (Logical Processor for
those that have Dell PE servers) enabled? I have seen this problem before
with HyperThreading enabled on the server, and this was mainly with Outlook
XP.
Also, where these servers imaged with the same image, or individually built?

Ntvdm: Usually not much hope there without add-on.
Outlook: If not a corrupted pst, usually 100%CPU is caused by html mail is
likely. So you are basically talking about the same things that mess up the
browser, which includes having "a bad internet day" (such as last Friday).
It is unusual for it to be "hardware", but a bad lan interface (from nic to
switch or vlan) could cause it. Maybe in conjunction with a bad site or
internet day could push the process "over the top". You know how to look
for those things (and if you give up you know where I am.)

Hello All,
One of my friends has a MetaFrame server where "random" processes consume
100% of the CPU utilization. When this happens, the system (of course)
becomes very unresponsive. You can right-click and kill it via task manager,
and everything is fine.
The weird thing is (and what's throwing me for a loop) is that one day it's
ntvdm.exe, the next day it's outlook.exe, etc.. different apps, different
users, different sessions, same server, same problem, same resolution.
MetaFrame XP, W2k, Office 2k.
I don't want to use any kind of clamping software because I'd like find the
real cause.
Any ideas? This guy has three servers, and it only happens on one of them.
I'm keen to call it a "hardware" problem. :-)
