sure but his Novell box was a true server. A terminal server is really = just an overgrown workstation. He would probably have no problem = rebooking a Win2k Pro workstation every night. That is how he needs to = see his terminal server. As one big win2k Pro machine for everyone to = share. I'm a big fan of the nightly reboot. It lets you start every = day back at square one (or close to it). I would go with Jim's suggestion first. Then try to sell him on the = nightly reboot. At least try for a weekly reboot even if you get this = fixed another way. It appears to be an erroneous error. The entire message reads as follows: Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. Return Value (1722). This server is not a domain controller, just a TS computer. Also, the client would probably like to avoid a nightly reboot. They were used to running on a novell server which rarely was rebooted. Therefore, it would place me in a difficult spot to ask them to reboot this brand new server every night. However, this might be the solution that I must resort to. Thank you for your ideas. -----Original Message----- From: Greg Reese [mailto:GReese@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]=3D20 Sent: Thursday, May 22, 2003 9:56 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Problems with Internet Explorer and Terminal Services anything in the event log? I ran into this on one of my servers when I was building it. I =3D3D reinstalled it completely and it went away. If a reboot fixes it for a few days, then maybe scheduling a nightly = =3D3D reboot would solve it for you.=3D3D20 Greg -----Original Message----- From: Lucas Boyken [mailto:lboyken@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, May 22, 2003 10:51 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Problems with Internet Explorer and Terminal Services Recently I installed a TS computer at a client site that is serving about 40 users. The server is very robust and has a minimum of apps loaded. (AS/400 software and a software metering pagckage is the only non-standard software we loaded) After three or four weeks of normal operation, Internet Explorer 5.5 stopped displaying web pages. It would just keep on loading a blank page, but spinning the little world like it is looking for something. We loaded IE 6.0 sp1 in an attempt to replace any files that might have been corrupted. Also, we have loaded SP3 for Windows 2000 again. Along with that, we have run all the appropriate updates to this server. However, with all that said, the server is still having problems. I've gone as far as to re-associate files with I.E. in several different ways. Also, for a workaround, we loaded NetScape after the problem starting occurring with some frequency. After several days of normal operation IE fails to work properly. If the server is rebooted, all is fine again for another couple of days. In a last ditch effort, we ran Ad-Aware to see if there was any spyware loaded. Basically, I am at my wits end and would like some help. Anybody have an idea of what might be causing this. Or, has anyone seen this behavior before? Thank you... =3D3D20 Lucas W.
