Have you tried giving system read only rights to the "active setup" key? Remember to backup your registry before modifying!! Outlook Express (delete key to remove icon) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C} IE Icon (delete key to remove) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383} Keep in mind that this will not remove any already created icons. It will keep them from being generated when a new user logs in. I also noticed that removing IE icon also removed the "Show Desktop" icon. I added the show desktop icon back by placing it in the Documents and Settings\Default User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\ folder. Now when a user logs on they get the quick launch menu only showing the "show desktop" icon.
