Brian,

It might be possible to find the "command bar ID" of your button, and
there by disable the button from displaying for users under the "custom
restrictions" of the office user side ADM's.

This trick should work for office 2000 - 2003 . . . At least for the
built in menu's I know it does, not sure about your add-in, but it's
worth a shot.

You need to get the command bars browser utility from here:

http://www.siam-consulting.com/Downloads.htm

Here's what you'd need to do. Install the tool to a machine that has
Office on it (doesn't have to be a TS server), after installation open
up the application you wish to restrict access to, then hit ALT + F11.
This will open up visual basic editor, from there, select 'add-ins' and
'commandbar controls browser'.

At the top of the window that pops up, select the application you wish
to view the settings for. Then scroll through the available menu items
till you find the one you want. The numbers associated with the item you
want to disable will be listed with this app. So find the button you
want to disable if you can in the available list and write down the
number associated with it.

After that, you can go into your system policies, go to the 'disabled
items in the user interface' folder, choose 'custom', then choose
'disable command bar buttons and menu items'. Enter your new found
number . . and your setting should be disabled.

You of course have to have the ADM's for your specific Office version
loaded to a group policy before you can setup the new restriction.

HTH

Subject: [THIN] Outlook Add-In

Is there a way to hide an "add-in" in outlook? We have a fax button
(it's a button, but not recognized on the toolbar) that is added as an
add-in in outlook. I want only certain users to be able to access this.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!
