it is the same SCSI card and cable that the DLT4000 was using. I think it is a 50 PIN UW connecting to the IBM ServeRAID card. Some files are local, some are remote. I have had the backup in place for about a year and a half. We were just starting to span tapes on the DLT4000 and wanted more room. All I did was remove and disconnect the DLT4000 and replace it with the DLT8000. Same cable etc. I then loaded the new driver from Windows Update. SCSI adapter 2. SCSI cable 3. Driver 4. Failing drive 5. Network errors As for drivers, I would download the updated driver set from Veritas. http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/259394.htm. What is the SCSI adapter you have the drive connected to? Are you just backing up local folders/files, or remote folders/files? Chris - -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Greg Reese Sent: Monday, August 11, 2003 8:32 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] OT (sort of) DLT4000 to DLT8000 I recently swapped out my DLT4000 tape drives for newer, bigger, faster DLT8000 drives. Everything went smooth but now my backups are slower not faster. I loaded the new drivers from Microsoft which are the same as the ones on the Quantum website. I am starting with new tapes to. The quantum website said something about tapes needing to be formatted in the 8000 to get the faster speed. It also said something about block size. I use the Windows 2000 ntbackup and it says the tape is mounted in a device that does not allow formatting. I don't see anything in RSM about formatting. I also don't see anywhere to adjust the block size. Has anyone used a DLT8000 before that knows the trick to getting the speed out of it. Directories that took 3 minutes to backup on the 4000, now take 15 minutes. Any ideas greatly appreciated.
