If you have Dameware, you can export a list of all services on servers in the domain into a csv file. The csv file will have server name, service, and the account it is running under you can sort the list in excel to find all services running under that account. If you don't currently have dameware, I am sure you can download a free trial. I find it to be a very useful tool, and really inexpensive. www.dameware.com -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Paul DeHaan Sent: Friday, January 07, 2005 4:42 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: service account script What you are after can sure be done using a couple resource kit files called from batch files or a wmi/vbs script. Thing is, if you know the names of the servers already, it seems like a whole lot of work for something that is only done every so often when a person leaves... It would be quite simple to create the batch file I sent earlier and then just create one additional script to execute it for each server like below: changeservice wk1 messenger DOMAIN\service servicepassword changeservice wk2 messenger DOMAIN\service servicepassword changeservice wk3 messenger DOMAIN\service servicepassword That gets the security issue out of the way. Then next time you have to do the same you just search and replace the password since you already have all the servers listed. It has domain admin privileges, so we needed to change the password on it when our programmer left. Those services use credentials supplied at the time it was configured for security. That's why they don't update automatically when I change the password on the domain account. I'd like to change that password for each of the services via a script. I've seen a few responses that allow for a remote method to change the password for a given service. Now, I'd like to be able to search a list of servers for services that already use that account and change the password automatically. Yeah, in other words... I don't want to do it manually. :) Thanks for the responses, R -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Braebaum, Neil Sent: Friday, January 07, 2005 10:08 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: service account script You've lost me? What password on what service account? Don't really see what that has to do with somebody leaving?
