Never thought of that... with 400 printers, that would be tough!!!

I like DHCP reservations mainly because I can change a default gateway
(you know, every other week because it's fun) and not have any hassles
from the printers. I do the same for most of my servers in case of DNS
or gateway changes.

I would choose DHCP with a reservation simply because, you can then go
into your DHCP table if someone peels a sticker off of the printer, and
if you label them intuitively it is easy to tell the IP address of it. I
would choose static IP because it is overall a bit less traffic to deal
with.

I think from a performance standpoint overall, static IP is the way to
go. Just make sure it's clearly documented. I don't know of any
documentation contrasting those... but that's my opinion.

We are going to resegment our network. One group of the project wants
to
use DHCP for printers and set them to a "Permanent" lease. Others want
static IP. Can anyone point me to some documentation which discusses
the
merits of both in a medium sized environment. We have about 400
printers
on our network.
