Just restoring files in the winnt\system32\config folder won't work, unless you had the capability to backup open files. Otherwise, most backup programs allow you to backup/restore the registry - which does you no good since you can't boot. If you ever backedup the registry via RDISK /S there will be backups of the registry files in \winnt\repair. If you can access those via FAT, or NTFSDos or an alternate install, you can copy those over into the \winnt\system32\config folder and you'll be good to go, save for losing all registry mods since your last registry backup. It'll get you running but you may have to reinstall some programs, or you'll be able to restore the registry from a backup at that point. If you have not made a backup of the registry via RDISk /S then you last option is to get ahold of a copy of Windows Server 2003 (aka .NET Server), and copy the corrupt hive file - in your case SOFTWARE - over and load it into regedit. When you do it'll tell you that it's corrupt and ask if you want to reapir it - which you do. When it's done, unload and then reload it to verify that the corruption is gone, unload it again and then copy it back to your server. I run .NET server on my laptop just for this feature alone and have used a few times. There's no gurantee that it'll work flawlessly, but it should at least get you back to being bootable.
