I use MS PPTP connections.  I've done it direct to Win2K RRAS and direct to
a Watchguard Firebox. 

PPTP has known security holes (mostly patched) but it's still mostly
insecure.

You could use L2TP or IPSec.  L2TP is pretty much as easy to setup as PPTP
but IPSec requires a lot of  work to get going.
