well one drive will give you enough speed, so just keep slapping in the
drives - youll get more and more resiliency :)
With raid 5, you (effectively) only lose one drives capacity to all the
parity information

Fastest, yes. But raw speed isn't critical to what I need (single client
file streaming). I'm looking for a solution with some fail safes (RAID5)
but that will give me maximum capacity.

Personally, I would duplex each pair of drives over the 2 controllers, so
you would have 4 (duplexed) mirrored pairs. I think this would be the
fastest option for RAID on the config you've got.

Subject: [THIN] OT: Software RAID question
This one is pretty OT I admit :). I've got a Win2K server at home that I am
looking to do software RAID5 with. I have 2 PCI IDE controller cards which
lets me have a total of 8 IDE drives, 4 on each. Would it be better to do 2
RAID5 volumes, one for each controller, or can I span the RAID across
multiple controllers and not kill performance (any more than it already is
simply because it's software RAID).
Just hoping someone knows!
