http://www.nmgi.com/doublecheck/faq.shtml

I talked to our linuxhead from my former employer and this is the
product that we used. It worked very well. This is what he said
DoubleCheck uses:

Exim Mail server, improved MTA, good rules, flexible configuration.

Spamassassin - Spam filtering mechanism.

McAfee Anti virus mail scanner.

Multiple RBL support

Multiple database / filtering sorting mechanisms to "Intelligently"
qualify SPAM.

MRTG, MySQL for reporting.

Hope this helps!

Understood, but they already have this software. They have inherited
the
software, and they already have the hardware. I'm just looking for some
Linux software. I know that one could use a Windows version, but I'm
not
looking for a Windows install. I already know a lot of software for
Windows. They do not want a Windows install (Trend Micro, SAV, NAI,
etc).

Yes, but you've mention that the $700 you save on a windows license will
be
replaced with a $899-$2599 Redhat Enterprise 3 license
(http://www.redhat.com/software/rhel/faq/#six). Hmm, that doesn't add
up...

In the end, you should be focused on providing a quality solution for
the
customer. The solution you go with and customer requirements will
dictate
what OS and hardware will be used. Not the other way around.

If your customer can afford it, SurfControl offers a few excellent
solutions.

Thanks, but I'm not all too keen on SAV SMTP gateway. Plus, I'm looking
for
a way to save them the $700 for the Windows Server license. I have
found a
product called MailScanner (http://www.sng.ecs.soton.ac.uk/mailscanner/)
that ties into SpamAssasin (which is a GREAT spam filter), and almost
any AV
scanner out there (Kapersky, F-Secure, NAI, etc.) But, you have to
know
Linux commands, POSTFIX or SendMail. There is a WebAdmin plug-in to
administer MailScanner, but I don't know how well it works.

It's not a linux solution but...

I've been pretty happy with Symantec Antivirus for SMTP Gateways. Plus,
it
comes with SAV Enterprise. If you've been selling your customers SAV,
they
may already be licensed for this.

I'll probably go to another product for SPAM, but for SMTP relay, AV,
limits
and attachment blocking this has worked very well.

Good luck,
R

Because they already have the hardware, and just want to know of an
option
for software.

Its not a firewall. Rather an appliance mail/content scanner, they just
call
it a mail firewall for marketing reasons.

Why do you want to bother running it on a linux OS if an appliance like
this
would be available and possibly more cost effective, and have more
features?

They already have the Watchguard Firebox system. They have a PE300sc
doing
nothing, and I would like to replace their existing SMTP server (which
happens to be a Dell workstation). I'm just looking for an alternative
to
TrendMicro's IMSS product that can be installed on a RedHat Enterprise
v3
system.

Thanks.

One word. Mxtreme mail firewall appliance.

I would rate it the best on the market and its licensing system is
awesome.
Where you don't have to pay per client. Just one flat price for the
appliance itself.

www.borderware.com has all of the information on it.

Does anyone have a suggestion other than TrendMicro's IMSS product that
provides SMTP routing at the gateway level that includes a very good AV
scanner, content filtering (attachment blocking, file size limitations,
etc.) and spam prevention for Linux? I know that Trend is releasing the
version 5.5 of the IMSS product that will include their new spam
filtering
engine in Q1 '04, but from the documentation I have read for 5.1 it
seems a
little tricky to get it running like the Windows NT/200x version.

Thanks,

Chris
