Landesk has a really nice infrastructure. It can repurpose any client
running the landesk client as a distribution point. It just picks the best
candidate on each subnet to be the representative. Packages go out and get
cached on these machines. So while a package is hot, likelyhood is other
clients can get it from someone on thier subnet.

As requests for that package cool down, they timeout of the cache of these
representatives. If a request for a packages comes after it's timed out from
all of the local representatives, then the client goes and gets it from the
central server.

Trying to determine if it is any faster of a way to get patches out. We try
to centralize everything and we have had to deploy a bunch of "Shavlik
Servers" in the field to handle the pushing. It works OK but it does take a
while.

Why would you go to WSUS if you have already purchased Shavlik?

Me. They come out, we test them, we OK them, I go through and manually
patch as required.

Good Morning,

I am just wondering what everyone is using for enterprise wide patch
management?
