Here is the "official" answer I received from the MS private newsgroups:

Thanks for posting here!

From your description, I understand that you want to know if it is possible
to hide the fax clients in Outlook Address Book in Outlook 2003 so that you
user can choose the email clients without any difficulty. If I have
misunderstood you concern, please don't hesitate to let me know.

No matter in Outlook 2000 or later version, there can be an easy method to
approach this issue which is to create a new contacts folder to separate
the fax clients and email clients. Please refer to the following steps to
create a new contacts folder:

1. Right click Outlook today (or other folder) and click New Folder.
2. Choose "Contact Items" in the Folder contains: drop-down menu.
3. Type in the name for this new folder, such as "Fax Clients".
4. Copy all the Fax clients in the original Contacts folder to this newly
created folder.

Hope the above information helps. If you have any other questions or
concerns, please feel free to let me know.

Thank you for your time and have a nice day!

Off topic - If I have both a Fax number and an Email addrees for a person in my
contacts
and I use my contacts as my Address Book, I get 2 entries in it for the person
- one
taht shows the email address and one for the Fax. Any way to limit it to just
the email
address? This sounds confusing - try it and you will see. Quite a pain.
