******Rant mode on********** Adaware is *not* free, nor donation. It is a commercial product which consumers are allowed to use for home use for free. Companies should pay (including academics), starting at $26.95. *****Rant mode off********** -----Original Message----- From: Ron Jameson [mailto:rjameson@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 21 June 2004 22:25 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: New spyware program? At the desktop, our standard deployment of apps is spybot S&D, ad aware and now testing spywareblaster. All are free or donation types. Spbot & Ad aware are the best in my view. Viruses are simple nowadays - spyware is the virus of old - a real PITA. You are right, we need the tools to handle all facets of the network. I actually wasn't referring to this for a Citrix solution...just for general desktop deployment to my clients. I think either AV companies need to step up big time against Spyware or it's only a matter of time till we're all running AV and anti-Spyware agents on all systems. Trend is starting to do this but the detection and cleaning of Spyware leaves much to be desired. (Trend is still my #1 recommendation for AV though) Interesting idea though about mapping the admin share and scanning remotely. --Brian Claus -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Roger Wright Sent: Monday, June 21, 2004 4:23 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: New spyware program? Not sure... I don't run it on my Citrix server. You might want to contact the vendor (www.sunbelt-software.com or www.pestpatrol.com) to inquire about specifics in a TS/Citrix environment. What I HAVE done is map a drive to the admin share on the Citrix server and run the program from another machine. It identifies and removes the tracking cookies for multiple users. I've used PestPatrol for a couple years now. I think it compliments Spybot or AdAware. None of these programs are 100% effective 100% of the time. http://www.majorgeeks.com/review.php?id=21 http://www.techsupportalert.com/trojan%20reviews/pest-patrol.htm http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1524257,00.asp PestPatrol 5.0 Corporate Edition has just been released and offers a central console to manage implementation and auto-installation in a network environment. It looks very capable.
