I want to avoid the -k switch because I want them to be able t enter an = address to go to and use the back buttons etc. -----Original Message----- From: Steven Clark [mailto:steven.clark@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, August 09, 2002 11:45 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT - Library Computer for Internet Access Only Greg, A start would be to look at TweekUI. This will allow you to lock down the machine. you could also run IE with the -k command which turns it into a full screen. You may need to check that command. For locking down internet explorer look at the IEAK http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ieak/default.asp which should do the things you need. Sorry to be vague but it was a long time ago when I implement these. My company runs retirement centers for the elderly. At each location we =3D3D have a library with a DSL connection. I have been tasked with building =3D3D a stripped down pc for them to use to surf the net and use web based = =3D3D email. I have built a couple of AMD based machines with no cd, no floppy, =3D3D minimal everything. The trick now is what operating system to use and = =3D3D how to lock it all down. I like Windows XP because the version of IE that ships with it is =3D3D colorful and easy to read. I am also open to Win98 or Linux or whatever =3D3D will accomplish this best. All they ever need to see is the web =3D3D browser.=3D3D20 I want to make sure they see no desktop, no drives, etc and that they = =3D3D are not able to install crap like the bonzi buddy or gator if they go to =3D3D a website that asks them to install it. I also have to make sure that = =3D3D their 13 year old grandson is not able to screw it up when he comes for =3D3D a visit. I don't want history or cookies saved and I don't want it to = =3D3D remember any of the last visited sites or any of that autocomplete =3D3D garbage. These computers will be shared by about 500 senior citizens = =3D3D who have an uncanny ability to break things (not as bad as nurses, but = =3D3D close). Does anyone have any experience with setting something like this up or = =3D3D have any ideas how to go about it. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
