When you say set excel? Do you mean automate it in just the same way that this is automating IE? If so, then yes - I'm currently writing a HTA (using vbscript) that automates all three main office apps (word, excel, powerpoint) to silently open a number of files (with the appropriate office app), spool them to PCL files, then blag the spool files to a couple of hundred print queues (basically a distributed print app). You can control many apps like this, using objects. With office, it's slightly more tricky using vbscript, than doing it within the app using vba - but just as possible.
