My opinion is that this is not a technical issue at all, but a political one.
I don't think it really matters whether he is connect to your lan while
connected to the ISP or not, if he brings in that email that has a virus, but
doesn't open it until after he's disconnected from the ISP, you are still
toasted.

Again, just my opinion, but you need to convince other partners at the firm
that this isn't a good idea and let them battle it out...

Subject: [THIN] OT: End User is cheating

I have an end user who knows enough to be dangerous and not enough to be
smart. Through our internal network we block most traffic to the
outside world except http and a couple other services that the end users
need. We have a proxy that blocks unwanted sites and blocks downloading
of certain types of files, ie. exe, bat, etc. And we also filter
incoming emails. Needless to say our users only get what they need and
no more. My problem comes in because one of my users has an analog line
in his office and what he is doing is dialing up to his isp with his own
personal account and downloading email and totally getting around our
whole defence system. One would think this is a slam dunk case but the
problem is that he is a partner at my firm. So my question is what can
I do???? Is there a way to disable his machine from making the
connection to his isp while he is connected to our lan? Or any other
suggestions would be most helpful. We are using W2k AD.

Thanks,

Jonathan
