A photo copy of the license, PO and receipt with a statement from the
insurance adjuster should be enough. Keep the first copy in a fire safe
and a photo copy of the other 2 off site. Get the statement from the
insurance adjuster after the fire.
If that does not work, include the cost of the software in the insurance
claim.

C'mon guys, these are not the answers to the question I asked:

Photocopies are no good, and manuf.'s aren't just going to believe you
really had the licensing. So what happens in the event of catasrophy
and
all paperwork is lost?

Fire safes have time limits on how long they last. I'm not looking for
someone to tell me to get a better safe or move it offsite. I'm looking
for
answers to a valid question that anyone should be considered with IMO.
It's
a question that needs to be answered in my DR plan.

A fire safe that really is fire-proof?

What happens if your building burns down and your fire safe melts down
to,
and inside of it is all your licensing paperwork.

Many licenses can be accounted for elsewhere by my figures (and guesses)
such as:
Citrix Licensing - All done online
Microsoft Open Licenses - MS keeps their own records online
Windows/Office licenses purchased with new PCs - Ex: Buy a new Dell with
Win2K/Office 2K, Dell has records

But what other products where you did not buy directly from the manuf.
and
no online record of licensing exists. For ex:
Exchange licenses/CALs
Windows CALs
SQL Server licenses

Photocopies are no good, and manuf.'s aren't just going to believe you
really had the licensing. So what happens in the event of catasrophy
and
all paperwork is lost?
