Do you have a network boot disk for the dell 2650 poweredge servers? "Parker, Dennis" <Dennis.Parker@xxxxxxxxxx> wrote:Well, we do have local HP support staff that services our current hardware, so that is one of the differences between HP and Dell. Not that it's a big difference, but it will be noted. It does give us an easy escalation path within HP when we aren't getting support. Perhaps it's just the area we are in (Portland, Oregon). Thanks for all the responses. Most of my contracts go through QualXServ or Unisys. No one really has their own trained monkeys that work exclusively for IBM, HP, or Dell directly. Maybe for some really upper level software support for software made by that company, but certainly not going to be that way for hardware. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jeff Stockard Sent: Thursday, September 23, 2004 4:11 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: Dell and HP (Compaq) Servers I don't know about the off site support, but in the Flint area of Michigan the same guy is the on site support for Dell, IBM and HP / Compaq. I had him come in for our Dell server (fan filled with dust and stopped working) the next month I called IBM and he showed up for that call also. Hope this helps Jeff Jesus Loves You -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jeff Pitsch Sent: Thursday, September 23, 2004 2:26 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: Dell and HP (Compaq) Servers I've used Dell, Compaq, and IBM and by far IBM and Compaq outshine Dell. Dell has price and if that is all you look at great. Have fun. The management features of IBM and Compaq are light years ahead of Dell. Support from Compaq(HP) and IBM are much better also. What I am looking for are *facts* based on personal experience with these two platforms mainly in the areas of support and hardware issues. If you want to limit it even more, I would like to know about the RAID controller issues, which I have seen many come across for the DELL servers and would like to know if there have been resolution to the issues and how recent they have been. If people have been having the same issues with the HP(Compaq) servers I would like that information as well. We are currently an HP(Compaq) shop but evaluating our options between Dell and HP. Not even looking at IBM for various reasons. Again, I am looking for facts, not opinion...we are opinionated enough already. :-) Thanks, Dennis Parker, MCSE, CCA Senior Systems Analyst Fiserv EFT/CNS 4550 SW Macadam Ave, Ste 100 Portland, Or. 97239 Direct: 503-274-6785 Fax: 503-274-6619 This e-mail is confidential and may well be legally privileged.
