Yes, this does help you backup the entire Information Store, but if you need
to restore a folder or item that was deleted, but the Deleted Items
Retention has expired, you would still need to either create a recovery
server in a test lab, and restore the database, then extract the item(s)
with the Outlook client or EXMERGE.  Or, you could do a restore of the
item(s) with the backup software if you are doing a brick-level backup.

It means you can backup the entire store as a unit, rather than backing up
items individually. Makes the backup process hugely quicker.
