I assume you've configured DNS on the DC to resolve on its own IP. If
so, how are you testing name resolution?

Drop to a command prompt and type 'nslookup'. If it gives some bs about
'can't find server name' then just note this and then type the FQDN of
your DC. If that returns an IP, then you just need to configure your
AD-integrated reverse lookup zone. If it fails, make sure you have an
AD-integrated forward lookup zone created and that an A record for your
DC exists. If that's already done.... I guess check to make sure the DNS
service is started or try recreating the zones.

Well, I could have all workstations pointing to the DC, but if the DC
can't
see itself as a DNS server, wouldn't the workstations not be able to see
it
either? The reverse lookup zone is standard primary and not Active
directory-integrated. I will check on the forwarders...

Also, make sure that you have forwarders on that name server to your
ISP's name servers.=20

Make sure that all of your workstations/servers are pointing to the DC =
=3D
or the server hosting the DNS zone for your AD domain. If not, then =3D
this is where you problem lies. Also, make sure that ALL of your zones
=3D
are AD integrated.

I thought I could get some answers here...I have upgraded an NT4.0 =3D
domain to W2K with AD, and all went smoothly. But, DNS is not working =
=3D
the way it should (nslookup responds with a "can't find server name for
=3D
address..." message). All pc's can see each other and the internet, =3D
forward lookup zone is set to AD-integrated, dynamic updates, and =3D
reverse lookup zone is set to standard-primary, dynamic updates. The =
=3D
domain name is 'domain.com', the
NetBIOS name is 'domain', and the pc name is 'newserver.domain' I feel
=3D
it
will cause problems, as we are set to install Exchange 2000 soon, and if
=3D
it can't find a DNS server, it will error. Any advice or resources? We
=3D
received no errors during setup, which makes it even more puzzling... =
=3D
Thanks in advance,=3D20
  Chad
