If you want to have it all, you should use SecureCopy. http://www.smallwonders.com/ I once copied about 40 GB (about 15000 files with shares, security etc) Regards Aleks -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: Angus Macdonald [mailto:Angus.Macdonald@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Verzonden: maandag 31 maart 2003 22:20 Aan: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Onderwerp: [THIN] Re: OT. Bulk permission changes File ownership isn't an issue for us so Robocopy should do just fine. -----Original Message----- From: Magnus [mailto:magnus@xxxxxxxx] Sent: 31 March 2003 15:51 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT. Bulk permission changes You can run robocopy with the /secfix switch which will take everyting but owner then you run chown on it and make the admin owner of everything Magnu -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Frank Monroe Sent: Saturday, March 29, 2003 10:59 AM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: OT. Bulk permission changes Not if you have a directory containing 1000 files with varying file ownerships. While I agree robocopy is good for keeping multiple shares in sync, it is terrible if you care about the ACL's since it trashes the owner information. You will notice this especially if you have any ACL's based on CREATOR OWNER. The best way to do this is to simply use NTBACUP. And, if you are on Windows 2000, you don't even need a tape drive. -----Original Message----- From: Ziots, Edward [mailto:EZiots@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, March 28, 2003 2:53 PM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: OT. Bulk permission changes use a setowner script or subinacl.exe to take care of the owner issue. Bulk permission changes I've just had a play with robocopy and it looks as if it will do everything I need (apart from migrating shares and I've got regedit for that). Thanks Angus -----Original Message----- From: Magnus [mailto:magnus@xxxxxxxx] Sent: 28 March 2003 14:27 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT. Bulk permission changes Use robocopy to copy the files there is an option with robocopy to bring over share/file and folder permissions with it using a /secfix Magnus -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Angus Macdonald Sent: Friday, March 28, 2003 5:38 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] OT. Bulk permission changes Sorry about the OT post. I have just installed a new NAS system and am shortly going to start consolidating all of my various fileservers onto it. Once I move the files onto the NAS, they'll inherit default permissions for the folder they are going into, correct? I therefore need to restore the proper permissions once the files have been moved. I remember seeing a very elegant batch file ages ago that would generate a permissions list (using CACLS) of all files then later parse the list and reapply the relevant permissions. Does anyone know where I can obtain this file now? I seem to have lost my copy.
