You can write to the multiple drives at once on the same SCSI bus. Optimum setup might be a second card for a dedicated second bus, or moving from a single controller card to a dual controller card Can't speak for any limitation of BackupExec. We use CommVault and it writes simultaneous to multiple tapes at a time (as many as you have and want to pay licensing for). There's no point in having more then 1 drive if only 1 is ever used at a time. ________________________________ From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Matthew Shrewsbury Sent: Thursday, January 25, 2007 10:22 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] OT: Backup with two tape drives If I add a second tape drive (LTOII) to the same SCSI buss can I stream to both tapes simultaneously? I need more capacity but I don't want to add a second backup server. I'm running BackupExec 8 if the software is the limiting factor. I was under the impression that most of the time backup software backups up to the first tape then the second. Thank you, Matthew Shrewsbury Network Manager
