Thanks for that information. That's great, but it's a manual process. Just
what you want to do every day: go to Symantec's page, download and save a
file, and then update every machine in a network (or a bunch of networks):
To download the Intelligent Updater and update the virus definitions
Go to the Symantec virus definitions download page.
Select the appropriate language and product.
If you have the retail version of Norton AntiVirusT, then click "Norton
AntiVirus for Windows 9x/NT/ME/2000/XP," and then click the "Download
Updates" button.
If you have one of the Enterprise Symantec antivirus programs, then click
your program and then click the "Download Updates" button.
To start the download, click the first file in the list under "Filename."
The file will start with the year and look similar to the following:
20040205-005-i32.exe
Click Save.
At the next dialog box, save the file to the Desktop and click Save.
After the file is downloaded, close Internet Explorer, and any other running
software programs.
Double-click the file that was saved to the desktop. The virus definitions
will be updated.
I can't believe this product is so popular - you have to update it
manually every day to be fully protected, and even then, it doesn't find all
the viruses. I suppose this is an example of the effectiveness of marketing.
I'm through with NAV at this point.

There is a LiveUpdate from 9 February, but we have the same concerns here.
However, Symantec offers two update mechanisms: "LiveUpdate" and
"Intelligent Updater". They write on their website: "LiveUpdate definitions
are updated weekly, except for major outbreaks, when definitions are updated
more often [...] Intelligent Updater is updated daily during the work week."
