I just want to see every > domain on that server. (Not subdomain) ls -t ns <domain> will (or should! it seems you are not getting back the results you should) list all the nameservers (and the zones / domains they are nameservers for) that that particular server (/ zone) knows about. You getting back nothing or error messages as indicated by your other reply, suggests something is quite wrong for your environment - at least from an interrogation perspective - this may be colouring your perspective on the debate. When I run the same query on a DNS server at the top of my DNS hierarchy (internal) I get shedloads of replies - and this for a hybrid domain, too - underscore zones, sideways zones, and directly delegated zones.
