It is not really overkill because you will also need a license server, Web interface and possibly a datastore server. It is always best to have a dedicated data collector, in this case it can also be WI, licensing, metric server, RM summary, run the consoles from this machine, etc.... The server has already been purchased for that purpose, so it's going to be used that way, even if it is overkill. This farm will expand in the near future, adding another 2 existing terminal servers (once they are converted over) with potential for another 4 servers by end of year. We'll also end up with a totally redundant site at a collocation. Datastore will sit on one of my SQL servers. We are publishing desktops for about a dozen users immediately, and then it looks like we'll add on another 30-50 users within 2 months. They use primarily Office 2003 and we have a few very light CPU/memory intensive business applications. In the future, we'll be publishing some apps via PNAgent or WI, again, low CPU and memory usage apps, but this is after the farm expands. None of the applications we will use require a lot of HDD space as they are all SQL backend based. Profiles will sit on a network storage server we already have. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Thin Man Sent: Wednesday, June 29, 2005 11:07 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: New Citrix install Are you saying that you will have a PS4 server dedicated to only being the data collector with no applications published? In that small of a farm I doubt the need for a dedicated data collector. What type of datastore do you intend to deploy? The way you partition the drives will depend heavily upon how you intend to handle user profiles and what applications you are publishing.
