[THIN] Re: NT4.0 TSE install scsi problems - HELP Urgent- Weekend rebuild

The thing is with this issue is that we know all about it from hard
experience. The confusing part is this- NT 4.0 will sometimes autodetect =
a
disk controller and appear to work properly all the way through the =
initial
install. However, upon reboot it fails.

The old F6 trick is forces the NT 4 installer to prompt for a disk
controller driver. At this point you feed it the correct driver, ignore =
the
fact that it seems to detect it, you must manually give it the correct
driver, usually on floppy.

We all learned this the hard way, so just trust it!

there is no prompt but f6 works on NT4

just hit f6 repeatedly when you see blue.

jim/ chris

There is not an F6 prompt on an nt4.0 install. "S" to specify is the =
=3D =3D3D
=3D3D3D method here. If I try to proceed without "specifying" a device, =
the =3D
=3D3D3D install does not continue. I suppose it's been a while since =
anyone
has =3D =3D3D =3D3D3D done this NT stuff?? I really think it has some =
thing to do
with the =3D =3D3D =3D3D3D larger disks. I know NT has boot partition
constraints. but I am not =3D =3D3D =3D3D3D sure about physical disk
constraints.???

anybody???

You need to press F6 right when the blue screen appears (right when the =
=3D
=3D3D =3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D CD starts loading). If you have ever installed =
Windows
2000, you will =3D =3D3D =3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D notice that it states to =
press F6 to
install a mass storage driver =3D =3D3D3D3D before the kernel loads. =
This is
the same location you would press F6.

Sounds like NT is already detecting the drives and you don't need to add =
=3D
=3D3D =3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D the scsi drivers doesn't it? Did you try going =
through the
install =3D =3D3D3D3D without that step? JK

Hi Everyone

Got a problem here. I am reinstalling NT 4.0 tse onto newer hard =3D =
=3D3D3D3D
drivers. 18GB scsi. (old ones were 9.0GBSCSI). I am using an NT 4.0 TSE =
=3D
=3D3D =3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D sp3 install CD_rom.

When I get to the section where it says press S to specify another Mass =
=3D
=3D3D =3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D storage device and put in your manufacturer =
diskette. I
do this. I =3D3D =3D3D3D3D select the Adaptec ultra 160 Scsi device and =
proceed.
ref: (My ScSi =3D3D =3D3D3D3D card at boot up says AIC 7899)

Next the install tells me it cannot see any hard drives. The hardrive =
=3D =3D3D
=3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D are detected at startup though?

Is this because the HDD are too big. Do I need to get hold of a NT4.0 =
=3D =3D3D
=3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D TSE intall disk bundled with a later SPack? HELP? =
PLEASE
