Focus on Thin-Client Technology
Whether your challenge is to increase security, reduce downtime, improve
performance of applications, keep viruses out of your IT environment, or to
just reduce the cost of supporting desktops, you should plan on
participating in this month's meeting.
The Roadway to SUCCESS
Driven by the need to update desktop PCs to accommodate Y2K and to replace
dying "green screen" terminals, Roadway Express turned to Citrix and
thin-client devices in 1998. Their justification did not lie in, what many
believe to be the obvious, lower costs of thin-client devices compared to
PCs, but in the huge savings of minimizing the on-going costs of supporting
2,500 desktops in nearly 400 locations around the US. Teamed with their
outsourcer, Affiliated Computer Services, Roadway embarked on a journey that
yielded real success - more rapid deployment of applications & updates,
dramatically lower support costs (ratio of 500:1, users to support staff,
including management), and overwhelming user satisfaction. Today, their user
base has grown to more than 5,000. Yet Roadway/ACS maintains a user
satisfaction level of 99% - almost unheard of in the IT world! JB Dunn,
Manager of Desktop Technology, and members of the Roadway/ACS support staff
will present the why's and how-to's of this exciting technology. You'll
learn about real cost savings, do's and don'ts of deployment, and what
Roadway learned in the process.
Where it's hot and where it's not
NEOCUG's first panel discussion will focus on thin-client devices. Our
panelists are successful, seasoned professionals representing some of the
leading manufacturers of thin-client computing devices, including MaxSpeed,
and Wyse Technologies. Our 40 minute panel discussion will be led by our two
co-presidents of NEOCUG, Matt Lesak and Jim Kenzig. While they have some
tough questions of their own, you are invited to submit your question(s)
when you RSVP to this meeting notice. Naturally, we'll ask each panelist to
give us a snapshot of their products' differentiators in the market, and
they will be bringing in thin-clients for your hands-on evaluation after our
formal meeting.
Join us on March 10 for some fun, networking and education!
