Yes you can but WTSFTP allows the user to throttle the bandwidth allocation of the transfer. This throttling can be set/forced by the admin - like every good application :). We are most interested in this as our users have a tendency to try to upload 100M drawing files without thinking. When they do this their applications grin to a halt and they are on the phone having a go at the "Crappy" citrix product.... /rantoff. If you know of a way to throttle via the virtual channels without installing a packateer or the like please let us know. Couldn't you simply use this feature and if you want to script it just net use the \\client prefix to mount local drivers on the ICA client..... Steve Greenberg Thin Client Computing 34522 N. It's a shame Citrix doesn't have this a part of their product set. I used two servers and one workstation for my testing. ServerA Win2k XPe FR3 + RDP 5 client +WTSFTP client software ServerB Win2k XPe FR3 + WTSFTP Server software Workstation WinXP + ICA 8 client via NFuse Install Procedure I setup the servers with all the Spacks etc plus ensured that the Citrix components were working correctly (ie published and connected to an application). I then installed the RDP client on ServerA. Published the mstc EXE and tested the ability to connect to another server running Terminal services. I then installed the WTSFTP software on both machines (with the change user /install mode activated). I only installed one of the two components on each of the servers. I do not think it will make a big difference but just for completeness..... I then created a batch file to call map a client drive ( you probably could use connect drives at logon) then call the TS client with a RDP file. The RDP file will call the WTSFTP client and run as a "published application." STARTWTSFTP.CMD -------------------------------- rem This script will open a session to a server and rem create local drive mappings. call :mapdrive call :starttsc goto :eof :mapdrive net use j: \\client\c$ goto :eof :startTSC start C:\WTSRV\System32\mstsc.exe c:\test.rdp goto :eof ------------------------------- the RDP client file is: TEST.RDP ------------------------------- screen mode id:i:2 desktopwidth:i:800 desktopheight:i:600 session bpp:i:16 winposstr:s:0,5,0,0,768,572 auto connect:i:0 full address:s:ServerB compression:i:1 keyboardhook:i:2 audiomode:i:2 redirectdrives:i:0 redirectprinters:i:0 redirectcomports:i:0 redirectsmartcards:i:0 displayconnectionbar:i:1 domain:s:Domain1 alternate shell:s:"C:\Program Files\WtsFtp\WtsFtp.exe" shell working directory:s: disable wallpaper:i:1 disable full window drag:i:1 disable menu anims:i:1 disable themes:i:0 bitmapcachepersistenable:i:1 ------------------------------- I then created a published application from within CMC and used the STARTWTSFTPCMD file as the executable to launch. Then tested the application. The batch file maps the local drive (ensure that your test user is not prevented from mapping drives or the server prevents mapping of drives) then launches the RDP client. The login box of SERVERB will be presented to the user, the user enters their credentials and then the server automatically starts the application. I had problems with the "registering" of the users - but I am not sure if this an issue because I am using the eval version. The software requires the registration of the client with each user before the user is able to successfully transfer data from serverA to serverB. The importance of mapping the client drive is to allow the software to talk to the workstation drives. I tested the bandwidth throttling - which worked really well. I was able to transfer a file at 1K from the workstation to a mapped drive on ServerB. Permissions on the various drives were an issue (ie I had not given any to the test user and therefore I was not able to write to them...oops). I have tried to get a passthrough mechanism working for the logon onto the ServerB but was unable. I did find a Q article on using the credentials which are passed through via the RDP file. This will not work for us as we force our users to change their passwords regularly. If anyone knows of a solution please advise the group as there may be others who are in the same boat. Hope this helps Mk Mark Calleja Coordinator Network Systems Network Systems Dept Housing and Works (08) 9222 4941 mark.calleja@xxxxxxxxxxxxx "There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't" >>> goconnor@xxxxxxxxx 17/06/2004 5:49:07 >>> Jim Have you managed to get RDPFTP or WTSFTP working via an ICA session, When I logon via RDP I can see my workstations drives, but via ICA I cant. I have tried this as an Administrator, so there aren't any permission issues on the rpd/ica connectors Grant O'Connor iVASP -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jim Kenzig http://thin.net Sent: Wednesday, 16 June 2004 3:32 p.m. To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Mobility Solution And note you certainly can run an RDP client within a citrix session so RDPFTP would work.
