Well put.... This is VERY exciting.... And makes SoftGrid a no brainer if you are looking for a virtualized application deployment solution. Why use Tarpon or Altiris now? It is NOT going to be cheaper and it is NOT going to compete technically. Unless your goal is less compatibility... ;) I'm just tickled. I think Microsoft is making all the right moves on this one and what is funnier is that all the "critics" that said 1) Microsoft will table the technology 2) Microsoft will piece it out 3) Microsoft will take years to do anything with it have all been proven wrong a couple times not. Microsoft gets it. Let's see if Citrix gets that by releasing Tarpon as a desktop solution they are walking in to a fight that might not end up so well... This is really exciting times... Call me weird or even wrong but with SoftGrid and OS virtualization or VDI even can't you engineer a solution that can be provisioned in second? I mean, this is ROI and TCO to the capital T! This is awesome news for us. I'm actually working on an article on this announcement and I can't wait to hear what the "critics" say now. I sort of feel for Altiris and Citrix's Tarpon but really I just want one solution for installing apps. To me, that is SoftGrid! J I use desktop and SBC also, we are just talking installation!! J OK, I'll get off my high horse... ;) DB Douglas A. Brown President and Chief Technology Officer Microsoft MVP, Windows Server DABCC, Inc. Why not? The old way let's say a company had 600 concurrent users but had a total of 3,000 people. They had to pay 75,000 for those 600. Today they would have to license 3,000 and the cost is 60,000 with the price drop so how is that not exciting? ----- Original Message ----- From: Jeff Pitsch <mailto:jepitsch@xxxxxxxxx> To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, August 05, 2006 10:51 PM Subject: [THIN] Re: Microsoft Softgrid Changes.. interesting!
