        Hi,

        Thanks for the feedback.

But does printer autocreation still work properly?

I realised when I read Michel's reply that I'd blamed the whole thing
on IT Support.

I must of course make it clear that it isn't your fault at all ;-)

        regards,

        Rick,

I've got round the issue by using this workaround

        http://support.citrix.com/forums/thread.jspa?forumID=86&threadID=67060

not perfect, but allows users to log in

        Hi,

Just tracked down our cpsvc issues to an HP Color LaserJet 4650 PS
driver.

IT support had this printer (no-one else!) so the cpsvc was always fine
for everyone else until one of the IT people connected from head office. After
that cpsvc was paralysed despite the fact that the cpsvc service was killed and
restarted, client printer autocreation was dead from that time on, until the
server was rebooted.

If you restarted the IMA service and the spooler (and cpsvc) you could
get things working again.

It's been a while since I've had problems with an HP driver, but
looking at the 4650 PS driver, I'd have to conclude it's an ugly piece of
software. Always thought that postscript was a much "safer" driver than PCL6
but I'm now prepared to change my mind.

We've given Citrix the relevant info, 'cause the cpsvc ought to survive
regardless. I'll keep you informed but my guess is we'll be seeing a revised
cpsvc shortly.

        regards,

        Rick

        Hi Rick,

        Thanks for this -

Cpsvc.exe says version 4.0.2250.1 is already installed

        Hi Nik,

We've got a customer in the same boat. But I've got a pretty good idea
of the problem.

Normally, if you're patched up to hotfix 22 or beyond (2003/PS4), the
cpsvc generally behaves itself.

However, what happened was that the customer applied the hotfixes, but
they didn't take. Seems that cpsvc.exe was busy (hung) and it was never
replaced by the hotfixes. When I checked the version of cpsvc.exe it was still
the original version rather than the updated version. Checking the event log
showed lots of msiinstaller errors because files were busy.

Tried a server reboot, then applying R01 and cpsvc was updated, however
I suspect some of the other hotfixes didn't install either, leaving the servers
in an indeterminate state. We'll try re-applying everything and hopefully that
should stabilise things.

The experience was a bit of an eye opener because you tend to assume
that hotfixes have applied, especially if the hotfix is then shown as
installed. But that's not actually the case. It's basically due to pretty poor
hotfix packaging that lends itself to broken error handling. Citrix should lift
their game because if a hotfix fails to install fully, the hotfix should fail,
period.

For the present crop of hotfixes, ALWAYS check the application event
log to make sure the hotfixes have installed successfully.

Otherwise life can get really interesting :-(

Anyway, you'll find if you clobber wfshell.exe the login will complete
and client printers will still autocreate.

        regards,

        Rick

Subject: [THIN] MPS4 - CPSVC hang / login's stuck on "Running Login
Scripts"

Has anyone found a solution for this issue yet...

We've tried all the usual things and patched our servers up, as
well as some others (and thanks to those who have contacted me from this list
about the problem already) but the problem persists....

Cpsvc crashes regularly - we've set recovery options to restart
the service upon failure, which isn't too bad for people logged on already...

Every so often the server will refuse any new ica logins,
freezing on "running login scripts for the user"

When this happens, my workaround is to stop the cpsvc and print
spooler services, and then start cpsvc - any frozen logins will continue to log
in, however they don't get any printers until they log out / on again.

I've torn out so much hair I've hardly any left .... Don't let
me go completely bald! :-)

                Nik
