It's been this way since day one. It happens on all 4 app servers. I
doubtful of a crashing print spooler or citrix print manager, but I
suppose it's possibly.

I guess the next likely step is to get to R01 and get these newer
hotfixes on that replace cpsvc.exe and resolve other printing issues to
see if they continue as normal, stop, or the frequency is reduced.

It sounds to me like the print spooler on your Citrix boxes may be
crashing. When they launch the app again, the spooler may have already
restarted automatically or they end up on a different server. Have you
checked your event logs? Have you checked to see if it's only on certain
servers that this happens to? Has it always been this way or did it just
start recently... say after some new drivers were installed?

In my case, they are loosing their mapped printers only.

All the printers are installed on their local computer off network print
servers. These are still directly accessible when they loose the mapped
printer in a published Citrix app.

Everyone uses PN Agent, there are no published desktops in my
environment.

And before someone mentions it, using the import network print server
and assigning printers via citrix policy is not an option.

Are you positive that it's only happening with mapped client printers?

Are these staff using network printers as well?

Can they access the printers from control panel? If so, do they
disappear from there also?

Are they running a published desktop or a bunch of individually
published applications (so closing and reopening the app would actually
create a new session)?

Citrix have just released a hotfix for all sorts of PS4 printing issues.
Might be worth a try.

Sadly we've trained our users to "deal with it" for now...sucks.
We're currently evaluating Thinprint as while the UPD in 4.0 is a huge
leap forward in the printing subsystem, it's still subpar. Will let you
know how that goes. At face value it seems that Thinprint is a waste of
money at this point given the state/features of the UPD but all of the
little issues with the UPD add up to make for an overall unacceptable
experience for our users.

I'm continually having issues with users randomly loosing their
mapped printers inside an application. It can occur in any and every
application. Adobe Reader, Office Apps, some of my business level apps.
It occurs even with client 9.150. I'm on PS4.0 with a few printing
related hotfixes. I still have to roll out R01. I'm using actual
printer drivers from HP and Dell, mostly all PCL, so no UPD.

The fix is always the same. Have the user close down their
application and re-open it. If there are multiple apps running on the
server with the app that has lost the printer, they may need to close
those applications as well?

I've got nothing wacky going on with the way I'm running the
farm or printer mappings. It's all pretty standard and almost as basic
as it can be, in my opinion.

Is this just something I need to get over and expect to just
always occur, or is there same way to solve this complete or make it
occur far less then it does?
