You might want to look at RES PowerFuse as well. They let you choose if you want to use the default NT explorer or the PowerFuse shell itself. Works with full desktop, published apps or Nfuse. I am in a pre-AD Windows 2000 environment so it's the polices for a bit longer. The Watson's seem to be related to the NTFS lockdowns I have done rather that related to System Policy. -----Original Message----- From: Durbin, Jeff [mailto:jdurbin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, August 07, 2003 10:23 AM To: THIN@xxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: [THIN] Lockdown Utilities There are various alternatives for locking down your MetaFrame server(s). I personally prefer the mechanisms that are native to the operating system, i.e. System Policy for an NT domain and Group Policy for AD. There are also third party products that address this as well. A few that I can think of are Tricerat's 'Simplify Lockdown' and 'Thor', and AppSense's 'Application Manager'. I've used the Tricerat product (when it was called Desktop 2001) and it was pretty simple, but it runs (at least it did then) on top of Explorer, so there was a window of opportunity at login where you could briefly see the desktop, which always bothered me. The AppSense product seems to be much more capable, but also much more complex. I'm told that they are simplifying the interface. Again, I prefer System Policy and Group Policy, although there are some minor limitations. BTW, I have never seen any Dr. Watson errors that were the result of a policy problem. What software packages out there are alternatives to NTFS lockdown, and are proven to allow me security from my users but not "dehabilitate" my applications?
