Do you get this message once every 6 hours? (or something like that, a very
regular interval) I believe there was an article about this. Totally benign.

Subject: [THIN] Licensing error 1010 in event log

Hello!

We have a non-AD Windows 2000/MFXP server farm. One of the servers
currently hosts the TS licensing service. It works. Now we want to move the
licensing service to another Windows 2000 (non-TS) server box outside the
farm. Because this server is located on a different subnet as out TS
machines, I used the well-known registry key

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TermService\Parameters
]
"DefaultLicenseServer"="servername"

to point the TS to the licensing server. It seems to work, the licensing
server hands out licenses according to the TS licensing tool. However, the
MF servers regularly show the following event in the system log:

"The terminal services could not locate a license server. Confirm that all
license servers on the network are registered in WINS\DNS, accepting
network requests, and the Terminal Services Licensing Service is running."
(event id 1010).

This entry reappears every 6 hours in the event logs.

I tried to use both the DNS name and IP address of the license server in
the above mentioned registry key, but it made no difference. (I didn't use
the Netbios name here, because we don't want to run WINS in this
environment.) Nevertheless, the TS boxes seem to find the license server.

Is there something wrong with this configuration? I already checked
www.eventid.net and the MS knowledgebase without success.
