I'm actually starting outlook hidden so the users don't know it's running. I subsequently kill it later after it has generated a MAPI profile for that user. Just nice to kill the splash screen so users don't know whats going on behind the scenes. Over the next few days, I'll probably be writing / amending outlook to start in this way (a step to making it difficult to attempt to start outlook twice through a custom interface) - so if / when I find out, I'll let you know. From memory, other office apps don't seem to display splash screens when automating that way - 'cos you explicitly state when the app should be visible.
