I'm actually starting outlook hidden so the users don't know it's running.
I subsequently kill it later after it has generated a MAPI profile for that
user. Just nice to kill the splash screen so users don't know whats going
on behind the scenes.

Something I wonder - if you automate outlook starting through COM
automation, I wonder if it displays the splash screen then?

Over the next few days, I'll probably be writing / amending outlook to
start in this way (a step to making it difficult to attempt to start
outlook twice through a custom interface) - so if / when I find out,
I'll let you know.

From memory, other office apps don't seem to display splash screens when
automating that way - 'cos you explicitly state when the app should be
visible.
