You could roll your own IM server. Take a look at jabber. http://www.jabber.org/ If you have something to host a VM with. There are plenty of free IM jabber appliances. For example... http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/248 jabber supports many different clients. Not sure how well the clients work on TS though.
