We also don't have problems with this.  But we change the SID, simply by
removing the machine from the network and re-adding it back.  Also, you
didn't implicitly state changing the machine name in your message.  You
are changing it somewhere aren't you?

We use sysprep but do the same thing otherwise from time to time.  Seems
to work well for us.  Not sure why you'd be seeing that.
