that worked for creating a new farm, but now a new set of errors when i
try to join the existing farm..i'm starting to think its a problem with
the server running the datastore.

you could try running chfarm and adding that server to a new farm by
itself and then readding it back to the existing farm, but leave the
zone as default then if that lets you start the IMA svc, move it into
the correct zone. This has worked for me in the past in similar
situations.

I've tried running IMA with local admin, domain admin, checked
registry rights, repaired the localhost cache, checked the ODBC--nothing
will allow the service to start. Other servers in the farm are working
fine

any ideas..this is a new server, so reinstalling metaframe is
