Hi Magnus,

The default is TCP/IP not named pipes. If your DNS is slightly screwy, named
pipes will work even if TCP/IP doesn't.

I personally wouldn't generally use named pipes, but when a customer of mine
screwed up their DNS and the whole site was down, a named pipes SQL
connection to the IMA datastore saved the day.

Regards,

Rick

Rebiuld your LHC on your MF servers and ensure that your are using TCP/IP
instead of Named Pipes on the DSN for the DataStore

Subject: [THIN] IMA Service not starting

Hi all, I have the following problem:

I have two domains (one on each subnet). Domain A has 10 MF XP servers + DS
server on SQL. Domain B only has one MF XP server and I'm trying to share
licenses with domain A. The installation of MetaFrame on domain B went fine,
but after a couple of reboots the IMA service fails to start with the
following errors.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: IMAService
Event ID: 3609
Description:
Failed to load plugin MfSrvSs.dll with error IMA_RESULT_ENTRY_NOT_FOUND

Event Type: Error
Event Source: IMAService
Event ID: 3601
Description:
Failed to load initial plugins with error IMA_RESULT_ENTRY_NOT_FOUND

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7024
Description:
The Independent Management Architecture service terminated with
service-specific error 2147483655.

Are ICA gateways still necessary in MetaFrame XP? If yes, I don't have any
set up. Also, does IMA depend on NetBIOS? I don't have a WINS server setup
and therefore browsing does not work well between the
the two subnets. If IMA depends on NetBIOS (to find the SQL server), then
that may be my problem.

Any help is appreciated.
This problem is kicking my butt. I have no experience whatsoever dealing
with MetaFrame in two different subnets.

Thank you.
