Partition Magic doesn't work on a Server. You need Server Magic.

A tricky one I feel:

NT4/MF1.8 server running short on disk space. The idea was to ghost the =
=3D
=3D3D
=3D3D3D
partitions and bring them back down to larger partitions on a new =3D3D
larger =3D3D3D
hard drive. This has worked fine before on other servers other than =3D
=3D3D3D
service failures as the ghosting process reallocates default drive =
=3D3D3D =3D
=3D3D
letters
C & D - start disk administrator and change drive letters back =3D3D3D =
to =3D
x =3D3D
& Y
... sorted.

This particular server is not having any of it. After the ghosting =
=3D3D3D
process, restart the server and the server goes through a normal boot =
=3D
=3D3D
as =3D3D3D
far as the Metaframe back screen... there is still the odd flicker of =
=3D
=3D3D
=3D3D3D disk
activity but no CTRL/ALT/DEL screen is displayed - cannot logon, no =3D
=3D3D3D
network services so no network access.

I have tried the process in variety of different ways but always come =
=3D
=3D3D
up =3D3D3D
with the same result. I am sure it is down to the drive letter =3D3D3D =
=3D3D
allocation
cos when the original drive is put in as an extra drive in =3D3D3D the =
=3D3D
server, the
system (booting from the new disk) sees the old disk as =3D3D3D X and =
=3D
boots
normally.

I have also tried using volume manager - which incidentally also =3D3D3D
reallocates default drive letters to any volume that it plays with - so =
=3D
=3D3D
=3D3D3D I
get the same result.

Is there anyway to reallocate the drive letters prior to system =3D3D3D =
=3D
=3D3D
start-up.
I have looked on Technet and found an article that allows you =3D3D3D to =
=3D
do =3D3D
it if
the machine is booted and can access the registry. I have =3D3D3D also =
=3D3D
tried
loading the hive from the server onto another test server but =3D3D3D =
the =3D
=3D3D
"Mounted
Devices" section that Q223188 talks about is not available =3D3D3D =
unless =3D
=3D3D
booted.

Has anyone else had anything similar or does anyone have any other way =
=3D
=3D3D
=3D3D3D of
increasing volume sizes??

Help please
