Ram is the only thing you are looking at. I would be asking the question: "what brings the current servers to their "knees"? Is it Memory? Or is it proc, or disk, network io etc... That is what you have to gauge with. Then run a baseline on one of these servers to see that it holds true on the new boxes (with the new os) Ron Oglesby Senior Technical Architect RapidApp Office 312.372.7188 Mobile 815.325.7618 email roglesby@xxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:roglesby@xxxxxxxxxxxx> -----Original Message----- From: Miguel-Guzman@xxxxxxx [mailto:Miguel-Guzman@xxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, September 24, 2003 9:52 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] How many servers? Hello, Currently I am running 17 Win NT TSE servers w/2GB or RAM; these servers will go to their knees when they get to the 40 user count. I have been told to get us NEW servers so we all finally agreed to purchase ProLiant BL20p G2 X3.06-512 Dual Processor Blade servers with 4GB of RAM. I am going through a brainstorm here trying to figure out how many servers to ask for... The average user takes up form 24MB to 45MB of RAM per session; and we would like to be able to always have an off-line server or at least if one fails to not decrease the users performance. So far I have counted 1 server for CSG & NFuse, 1 server for STA, and 7 MetaFrame XP Win 2003 servers. Does this seem like a good amount? <mailto:Miguel-Guzman@xxxxxxx> Miguel Enrique Guzmán CCA Network Analyst I (941) 917-7084 Information Systems <http://www.smh.com/> Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (941) 917-9000 Duct tape is like the Force.
